Menopause and women's health explained along with my own women's
health experience while going through menopause.
When I knew I was beginning menopause I was very
concerned that I was going to have the same difficult menopause
experiences that my mother had... extreme mood swings, debilitating
hot flashes, extreme fatigue, and so on. However when I asked my doctor about the possibility
that I would go through menopause like my mother, he gave me some
wise advice. He said that menopause is a natural stage in a woman's
life and that more than likely my mother had a more difficult time
with menopause because she was in overall poor health. He told me that because I was in good health, I
could expect to have a different menopause experience. And my doctor
was absolutely right!
Menopause and Women's Health
Starts With The Basics!
Staying healthy has always been a priority for me
and I have done this by following some very basic menopause &
women's health principles. For the most part staying healthy is just
plain common sense. Menopause and Women's Health Tip #1 - Breathe
Deeply Breathing is essential to life. Our bodies exchange
carbon dioxide for oxygen to keep each cell in our bodies alive and
functioning. This rich supply of oxygen can make the difference
between feeling tired and stressed and youthful and focused. Deep breathing not only brings oxygen into our
bodies; it also removes more waste than any other body process. Deep
breathing gets the oxygen our bodies need into our bloodstream and
then into our cells. Our cells need oxygen to burn nutrients like sugars
to produce energy that fuels everything the cell does. Our cells
cannot produce oxygen and that is why when they are deprived of
oxygen even for just a few minutes they die.
Some of the benefits of breathing deeply are:
- Cancer cells, germs, fungi and bacteria cannot survive in an
oxygen rich environment
75% of body toxins are removed by deep breathing
Breathing deeply maximizes your lung capacity
The oxygen your body gets from deep breathing is used by the
body to displace toxic free radicals
- Deep breathing helps you handle stress
Menopause and Women's Health Tip #2 - Get Regular
Exercise What better way to breathe deeply than to get
regular physical exercise? Getting regular exercise means we will
have to elevate our heart rate and our breathing. Whatever exercise
we choose will increase our circulation delivering oxygen to our
cells. Exercise enables our Lymphatic system to purge our
body of toxins. Exercise triggers our brain to release health giving
hormones and enzymes that bolster our immune system. Some of the benefits of regular exercise are:
- Strengthening our heart, lungs and circulatory system
Building our energy levels so we can be more active
Managing our weight so we look and feel fit and healthy
Strengthening our bones and preserving bone mass
Prevents and reduces the risk of osteoporosis
Improved sleep
- Improved sense of emotional well being
Menopause and Women's Health Tip #3 - Drink Water Our body is made up of 70% water, so it stands to
reason that drinking water in the right amount everyday is an
essential part of staying healthy. Our body cannot store water so we
need to drink water throughout the day. Water is essential to all our body functions:
respiration, circulation, digestion, brain function, joint function,
blood production and waste removal. Some of the benefits of drinking water:
- Adequate water consumption prevents toxic build up in our
bodies
Drinking water helps clear the toxins from our body
encouraging fiber to cleanse the system without becoming impacted
Water is essential to nerve impulse transmission
Water is essential for youthful, healthy skin
- Water lubricates the joints and tissues in our bodies
Menopause and Women's Health Tip #4 - Eat
Nutritious Food This one should be obvious. Eating good food
provides our bodies with the essential building blocks for growth,
maintenance and repair, and the energy we need to live our lives to
the fullest. With menopause women's health it's even more critical
to eat properly. A balanced diet, rich in whole foods, combined with
quality nutritional supplements created to meet our specific needs
will give us the energy we need and the necessary nutrients to
maintain a healthy immune system. The kind of food we eat has the most profound impact
on our bodies. For example, eating too much refined sugars and
caffeine can lead to blood sugar fluctuations, mood swings and
irritability. Eating too many starches can drain us of energy and
stamina. Eating too much highly processed and fatty foods can
give us digestive problems like heartburn, gas and bloating. And
plain and simple, eating the wrong kind of foods and over eating are
the main causes of weight gain. In essence, food is the most powerful drug we
consume; however, with the lifestyles many of us lead today it is
difficult to have a balanced diet. Not only that, it is questionable
as to whether the food we purchase to eat contains the best
nutritional value. So it is essential to add good nutritional
supplements to our diet to make sure we are giving our bodies
everything they need. This is especially important for women going
through menopause and in particular good menopause women's health. Menopause and Women's Health Tip #5 - Get Enough
Sleep This one can sometimes be difficult for women going
through menopause. However, good sleep is essential because it
signals our body's cells, systems and organs that it is time to
repair, rejuvenate and rebuild. Getting enough sleep also has a
powerful impact on our emotional health, a crucial factor for the
menopausal woman. Sleep is also the time that our brain produces the
hormones and enzymes essential to regulate the production of HGH
(Human Growth Hormone). When the body is deprived of sleep, HGH
production is limited and can contribute to:
- More free radical production and less antioxidant production
Aging and wrinkles
Decreased libido and sexual performance
Hormone imbalance in women
Insufficient testosterone in men
- Weight gain
Menopause and Women's Health Tip #6 - Emotional
and Spiritual Health Being emotionally and spiritually healthy are
intrinsic aspects of our physical health. As women going through
menopause we know how the changes happening in our bodies and the
changes happening in our lives profoundly influence our emotional
and spiritual well being.
So don't lose sight of this and do whatever you need
to stay emotionally and spiritually healthy. Don't be afraid to ask
for help if you need it!
